Power Transmission

We can provide for all your Ground investigation requirements on National Grid sites, including Substations, cable routes and pylon new build, replacement and assessment.  The services we offer include: Borehole drilling with all associated testing and sampling (SPT, U100) using our innovative rigs; In situ CBR testing; plate load testing; hand dug trial pitting to obtain samples for geotechnical and contamination testing; Air/Water pick with Vacuum extraction to safely expose and identify services; UXO clearance; Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT); In situ thermal Resistivity testing.

All our personnel are trained to National Grid 'Person' and 'BESC' for both substation and overhead lines.  Our trusted engineers are trained to supervise works as 'Competent Person' and with National Grid approved HSG47 training.

Our company has innovated and developed the P45 and P60 rigs, as well as using the Pioneer, Terrier and Vac ex rigs which are capable of working on flat or sloped ground.

Following some recent work involving an investigation to provide geotechnical information for the under road crossing of electricity cables, our client said..."I would just like to thank your engineer Oliver Pritchard and the drillers for the work undertaken at Kings Worthy this year.  The drilling of two pioneer boreholes was undertaken in a very professional manner and in a shorter space of time than I had envisioned.

Even in today's safety conscious work environment it is all too easy for work crews to ignore such vital points as actually digging to the necessary 1.2mgbl to check for services in any started pits.  With your internal system whereby the engineer on site signs off that the necessary depth was reached even in the chalk encountered on this site, 1.2mbgl was reached before drilling commenced.  To me this system is very sensible and must be commended.  High visibility clothing and hard hats ETC were worn without grumbling; again this is really good to see.

All my specific site instructions were undertaken without question and in the way I instructed, it has become very beneficial to work on a regular basis with Olly as I believe he now understand what we require without having to explain it numerous times.  The lead driller was a very friendly and approachable and knew what he was doing.

It is always nice for a job to run this smoothly and it is greatly appreciated.  I look forward to future jobs with yourselves and hope that they all run as well as this one."....... Alex Triffitt, LSTC
