Neil Parry invades New York
Neil Parry Completed the tough New York marathon course on Sunday 4th November 2007 in a time of 3 hours 26 minutes 26 seconds, in a position of 3,106 from 39,265 starters.
Neil said that “Considering all the walking around (and shopping) that I did and the lack of sleep before the race it wasn’t too bad. I started reasonably well but tired at the Queensboro Bridge, which is the one in Simon & Garfunkle’s "59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)". I felt far from Groovy as I went over it to the 16 mile mark. Although the "slow down you're going too fast" bit was quite appropriate as I was running at 3 hrs 12min pace up to 15 miles. When I realised that I wasn't on for a good time I decided to just enjoy the experience. ……….Well…………. as much as you can enjoy running 26.2 miles.”
“If anybody is thinking of doing just one marathon this would be the one I would advise them to do. The race is huge and the whole of New York seems to be gripped by the Marathon. It is also a good place to visit with the current exchange rate.”
“I also raised about £1,500 for GetKidsGoing, a charity that assists disabled children to participate in sports and recreation (including Shelly Woods, the ladies London Marathon wheelchair race winner, who was runner up in New York having been second last year by 2 seconds). I am very grateful to the staff and clients of Geotechnical who sponsored me.”
Neil now turns his attention to the Paris Marathon on 6th April 2008, which leaves about a 4 week gap in training.
