Drill Rig Guarding

Geotechnical Engineering are pleased to announce that we are now able to satisfy the requirements of the HSE in complying with all the relevent regulations concerning Rig Guarding.

This issue came to light at the Geotechnica Exhibition in August 2009, where our rigs were inspected by HM Inspector Sarah Snelling.  It was pointed out that the guarding on our rotary rigs was (to some extent) not fully compliant with their interpretation of the regulations, and that we needed to make some modifications to reach full compliance.

Working together with the HSE, we came up with a design for fully-enclosed interlocked guards that satisfy the regulations, and also a design for temporary guards that we could use on all our rotary rigs while the permanent solution was being manufactured and installed on our fleet.  This process is now complete and our rigs have all been fitted with permanent rig guards.

The full story was announced in an article in Ground Engineering Magazine (Dec 09), and with their kind permission the article is available to download here.
