Geotechnical P60 Rotary capable Slope Climbing Rig
Geotechnical Engineering Ltd are very pleased to be able to announce the roll-out and deployment of the most innovitive drilling rig to be produced in Britain in recent years..the 'P60' Rotary capable Slope Climbing Rig.
This has been developed by this company in direct response to the success of the 'P45' sampling rig, which led our Clients to ask for a little bit more..depth capability, ability to core through obstructions, case to depth, and socket instruments into bedrock, all while utilising the superb climbing ability of our P45 chassis...for all those applications where the site is too steep to economically set up a boring old rotary or shell and auger rig...
The rig has been designed to be able to access slopes of up to 45 degrees, and set up safely (and remotely..all movement is done by radio control) to provide a stable, clean and well-laid out drilling platform without the need to provide scaffold platforms or vehicle access ramps. The rig itself is 'assisted' while in the drilling position by a separate 'Mule' tender vehicle, which has the same climbing capability and is able to move to and from the site base to the drilling positions carrying water for flush, core boxes, drilling equipment, and anything else needed for operations (cups of coffee and sandwiches included...)
The P60 has been designed to be capable of:
- Dynamic sampling of soils to 20m deep to obtain near-undisturbed continuous samples up to 112mm diameter retained in a plastic liner, forming boreholes of up to 128mm diameter.
- Rotary core drilling to 80m deep to obtain continuous rock cores of up to 112mm diameter, using a range of drilling flushes.
- Standard penetration testing (SPTs) in general accordance with BS1377
- Undisturbed (U70) sampling for Geotechnical testing
- Installing standpipes, monitoring wells, biaxial inclinometer tubing and various other instruments.
- Rotary percussive and open hole drilling to 100m depth
Clients who have encouraged us with our design see the uses of the P60 as being very varied, from Railway and Highway cuttings and embankments, landslip investigations, earth-fill Reservoir and dam inspections and even Windfarm locations.....all of which can be simply and economically investigated and instrumented with this new machine.
Please contact Stuart Tod for further information about the capabilities and availability of this exciting new rig.
